Tibet Tribe is a trip that begins from Chengdu the capital of Sichuan province that has direct-flights to Europe, North America and Southeast Asia. These flights have made a visit to the Tibetan plateau a lot easier than ever before. This trip leads onto Tibetan plateau after reaching at gateway town of Kangding; from top of the high mountain to the bottom of the valley. You will enjoy outstanding combinations of the religious site that the 7th Dalai Lama spent 7 years for his meditation, and the lovely creature, Giant panda. Danba is also called the “Beauty valley,” because the girls from Danba are thought to be the prettiest in Kham., Beautiful local women in their magnificent national dresses are fascinating for travelers and professional photographers alike. The landscape in Danba change vertically from high-altitude snow covered mountains and glaciers to the low altitude grasslands and river valleys.

Arrive in Chengdu

Meet your guide at the airport or train station, drive to your hotel to check in. In the afternoon feel free to take a relaxing sightseeing visit to the traditional Chinese teahouse at People’s park.

Chengdu to Kangding

We’ll drive 360 kilometers on a paved road, into hill country and cross through Mt. Erlang tunnel, where we will stop by to visit Luding Iron Bridge. Then, we’ll arrive at the gateway town of the Eastern Tibet of Kham – Kangding, which is cradled along the raging Dzetuo River. The river’s continual rumble can be heard in its alleyways where nomads from the West to sell Tibetan herbal medicine, Khampa knives, traditional Tibetan garments, and yak butter tea. For centuries the town has held the status of “Gateway to Tibet,” after arriving in Kangding take a walk to acclimate to the altitude and visit Anjue monastery.

Kangding to Bamei

Drive onto the Pass of Dzetuo Mountain, which is at an altitude of 4,320 meters. If weather permits, we’ll be able to see the highest peak of Kham of Mt. Minya Gangkar (7,556 meters). After having lunch at a Tibetan family’s house, we will head northwest to Tagong, where we are going to visit the Lhagang monastery. According to a legend, when Princess Wengcheng (Tang dynasty) traveled to Tibet, she stayed overnight there, and the Jowo Shakyamuni image which she brought as her dowry to Lhasa requesting to be left in that idyllic setting. Subsequently, King Songtsen Gampo constructed 108 temples in the direction of China mainland, after visiting to Lhagang monastery heading to the holy mountain of Yarla Jartso and, visit the great Mani pile.


Today, you will spend one full day exploring the villages and secret sits in Bamei, including Garta shangbaling monastery, visit a local Tibetan family. If you would like, you can experience herding yaks to the mountains with local Tibetans.

Bamei to Danba

From Bamei, we turn to the east, and stop by the monastery of Gatar Shangbalin, which the 7th Dalai Lama used to cultivate himself according to a religious doctrine, then to the birth place of 11th Panchen Lama. Then, about a 30 minute drive onto the range of Yarla yartso mountain we can enjoy the stunning view of Mt. Yarla Yartso, then continue following the Donggu River crossing through the narrow and deeply Donggu valley to Danba, which is the Kingdom of Ancient Blockhouses.

Danba to Baoxing

In the morning we will drive up to Dzong-lu village to witness the traditional building of Tibetan of “Pill box.” It is hidden deep in the high mountains and dense forests, thousands of blockhouses endowed with a sense of mystery. The Dadu River takes shape there and flows south through Danba. Towers were built hundreds of years ago, for defensive purposes and passing messages between different villages. The height of these stone-built military structures is often above 30 meters, while the tallest tower measures 60 meters high. Looking from afar, the scenery of the groups of towers and castles standing in the gorgeous Danba valley is breathtaking. In the afternoon drive to Baoxing and pass through the pass of Mt. Jiajin (4,600 meters), then descend to Baoxing valley.

Baoxing to Chengdu

In the morning we’ll head back to Chengdu and visit the Temple of Marques Wu, Jinli Street in the afternoon.

Chengdu departure

Today, your trip is ending. We will provide transportation for the drive to the airport or train station where you will go to your next destination.
