2017 Kangding Mountain Festival

Kangding Mountain Festival is also called “Kangding April 8 Festival”, as “April” 8 is the first day of this festival; This festival is held annually in Pao Ma mountain of Kangding; in 2017, its date is on May 3rd, the whole celebration will last 3 days.

“April 8” is also the birth date of Buddha Sakyamuni, whom was born in 565 BC, was the ancient India Kapiluo Weiguo (now Nepal) prince. In legend, when Sakyamusi was just born, one of his fingers pointing sky, and another finger pointing the earth; At the moment, the earth was shook, and 9 dragons spit waters for his bath. The after, Buddhists from all over the world celebrate the birth of the Buddha with this “Bath Buddha Festival”.

This festival is quite popular in the east Tibet of Kham, the current western Sichuan province of Kanze Tibetan Autonomous prefecture.

In 2017, Kangding Mountain Festival will be started by local tibeyan whom will dress their minority tribe customs, gathering together at Dzetuo river and Pao Ma mountain, buring the immense to pray, and burning “Paper money” to sacrifice to the mountain gods, pray for the bless. then put up tents to play tibetan play, dancing Guo-zhuang (a locla tibetan tribe dance), and also having horse-racing competition, nowadays, Tibetan Dress Display has been added as one of the important feature to introduce Tibetan culture.
