Amdo

One of the three traditional regions of ancient Tibet
and is now called as “Qinghai Province”

However, the Amdo region in the traditional sense not only includes the present Qinghai Province, it also includes part of the present Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province, and the southern Tibetan area of Gansu Province. Because it is located to the east of Tibet, so that it is called Eastern Tibet along with Kham.

Amdo was and is home of many important Tibetan Buddhist monks, scholars whom had major influence on both politics and religious development of Tibet. It encompasses a large area from “Machu” (Yellow River) to “Drichu” (Yangtze River). There are countless lakes on this land, one of which Kokonor Lake lies at an elevation of 3200 meters, about 110 kilometers northwest from Xining .

The 3 best places for starting your adventures through Amdo are Xining, Chengdu and Lanzhou. All of which are with easy access of public transportation that to connect each other. Especially, on route from Xining to Chengdu, it covers many interesting religious sites and nature wonders, such as: Songpan, Jiuzhaigou, Zoige, Langmusi, Labrang monastery and Tongren
