Kangding Trek

Kangding Trek is a trek that fits almost all visitors even for young kids. This Trek does not require a very much experience in mountains, a health people is OK to do this trek without problem. During the trek, you will experience the wildlife and snow-capped mountain peaks within the 3 days.

It happens in the eastern Tibet in Kangding, which is the gateway town to the Tibetan Plateau. Since the new High-way being completed, the journey to Kangding from Chengdu can be done within 4 hours. It is very convenient to get to Kangding nowadays

The standard Kangding Trek is about 3 days to cover approximately 40 kilometers, however, if you might want to make it longer and walking more distance, then there is one 2 days trekking extension is available. During this additional 2 days, there is pass, which is nearly 5000 meters,to cross over, the trekking distance would be another 30 kilometers around, However, this extension requires certain physical condition and experience, so it is NOT suitable for kids or anyone without experience in mountains

Arrive in Chengdu

Meet your guide at the airport or train station, drive to your hotel to check in. In the afternoon feel free to take a relaxing sightseeing visit to the traditional Chinese Tea-house at People’s park.

Chengdu to Kangding

We’ll drive 360 kilometers on a paved road, into hill country and cross through Mt. Erlang tunnel, where we will stop by to visit Luding Iron Bridge. Then, we’ll arrive at the gateway town of the Eastern Tibet of Kham – Kangding, which is cradled along the raging Dzetuo River. The river’s continual rumble can be heard in its alleyways where nomads from the West to sell Tibetan herbal medicine, Khampa knives, traditional Tibetan garments, and yak butter tea. For centuries the town has held the status of “Gateway to Tibet,” after arriving in Kangding take a walk to acclimate to the altitude and visit Anjue monastery.

Trek Day 1

We’ll begin the trek by departing from Kangding by vehicle to Dzonggu village, where we load the baggage onto local horses. The hike is about 5-6 hours where we’ll cross bushland and trees, the land view is wide, through the valley to reach the camp by the east slop of Yarla Yartso mountain. It is said to be one of the nine holy mountains in the remote antiquity, which is the holy mountain and to resemble a white yak.

Trek Day 2

From the camp we’ll depart for the first pass and onto the grassland to enjoy the scenery at Yarla Yartso Mountain. Then, we’ll descend to the bottom of the valley, to camp by the beautiful holy lake of Yalar Yotso.

Trek Day 3, Trek ends, to Lhagang

We’ll depart from the camp, where we’ll take another trail onto the last pass to descend to the spot that our vehicle waits, load up our gear to the vehicle, we will see goodby to our Tibetan supporting Crew, and then we will drive to onto Bamei county, where we turn to east. En route, detour the great mani pile of Kham in Manijiaguo village. We will spend the night at Tagong, where Lhagang monastery is located

Lhagang to Chengdu

We’ll go by vehicle through the new road of Kangding, which is a place famous for its terrific views. If the weather permits Mt. Minya Gangkar (Mt Gongga), which is the highest mountain southwest of China, will be visible. The drive may take 8 – 9 hours long, after arrive in Chengdu, check in your hotel, you will have your time free.
