Overview
Join us for the 2025 Litang Festival in the “High Town” of Litang County, located in the heart of the Kham region of the Tibetan Plateau. Prior to 2008, the festival traditionally began on August 1st and lasted three days, taking place on the expansive Maoya Grassland.
During this vibrant celebration, thousands of Tibetans from Kham, Amdo, and Central Tibet gather on the open grasslands, setting up their colorful tents and creating a massive “tent city.” The highlight of the event is the thrilling horse racing competition. Dressed in traditional attire, skilled Tibetan riders perform daring feats on horseback—such as snatching a scarf off the ground at full gallop or shooting arrows while riding. Meanwhile, local women adorn themselves in exquisite jewelry and cheer the riders on with enthusiasm.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to immerse yourself in authentic Tibetan culture, witness ancient traditions, and experience the wild beauty of the Tibetan Plateau.
