Overview
Yarchen Gar Pilgrim is to drive for about 850 km west from Chengdu to visit this Nyingma Pa monastery. Even if this is a newly found monastery, however, it has rapidly grown to be one of the largest Buddhist study, and meditation compound across Tibetan plateau. Due to its remote location and the harsh traffic condition, this place is kind of self-isolated, and being very seldom visited by tourists. This trip will drive you onto the West Sichuan to explore the hidden Nyingma Pa monastery
Yarchen Gar Monastery is also known as Ya Qing Temple in chinese. It is located in valley with altitude of 3,900 meters above sea level in Pelyul County. Currently, it houses more than 10,000 Sangha, which makes it the largest concentration of nuns and monks in the Tibetan plateau after Larung Gar monastery. Most of the Sanghas are nuns. About 7,000 nuns live in self-constructed very simple shacks on a plain by a river, and another 3000 around monks live on East side of the river.
