Katok monasteryis located at the top of the mountain in Pelyul county. It is one of the 6 great Nyingma Pa monasteries of Tibetan Buddhism.
“Katok” is Tibetan pronunciation. According to the legend that when this monastery was being built, a large rock was dig out which a naturally formed Tibetan work “Ka” was on it, and the monastery was built on this rock. So this monastery was named “Katok monastery”
Katok monastery has one great pujia “Katok Festival” annually, in 2016, its date is from 11th to 13th of August
