Eight all-region tourism demonstration zones are planned to be built in Tibet in 2017

According to Tibet Tourism Conference which is held in Lhasa recently, there were 23.15 million tourists including foreign tourists visiting Tibet in 2016. This is 14.8% increasing to compar with 2015; Till the end of 2016, there are about 246 star-rated hotels, 448 star-rated Family Inn, 212 catering enterprises, 19 transportation companies, 117 class-A scenic spots and 244 Tour operators and Travel agencies. Tibet tourism has gained a tremendous increasing in the past years

In 2017, Tibet expects to welcome more than 25 million tourists including foreign tourists and providing 380,000 jobs, which can help local 32,500 families out of poverty. In addtion, two 5A class-scenic area and more than ten of 4A class-scenic area will be built or completed

All-region Tourism is a new concept that is brought up during this conference. In 2017, There are about 8 All-region Tourism Region begin to be built, i.e, Lhasa, Nyingchi, Shigatse and Purang County of Ngari, and Chengguan District of Lhasa, Tohlung Dechen District, Gongbo gyamda County and Pome County;

2017 Katok Festival Date

Katok Monastery is one of the six principal (“mother”) monasteries of the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. It is located on a top of mountain with altitude of 4200 meters above sea level approxiamtely 70km from Pelyul county that has made this small Tibetan Town becomes the most convenient town to begin the journey onto Katok Monastery

Katok Festival is also “Katok Monk Mask Dance Festival”. It is one of the major events that Katok Monastery holds almost annually. The 10th day of the 6th Month on Tibetan Calendar is the birthday of Padmasambhava (‘Lotus-born’), whom was an 8th-century master of Buddhist tantra, and is credited with bring [simple_tooltip content=’ Vajrayana is the tantric corpus of Buddhism, refers to one of three routes to enlightenment, the other two are Srovakayona and Mahoyona’]Vajrayana [/simple_tooltip]to Tibet and Bhutan. He is revered today as one of the great patriarchs of Tibetan Buddhism and the founder of the Nyinma Pa. He is also called “Guru Rinpoche,” and “the Buddha of our time”.

Katok Festival is in memory of Padmasambhava with programs of Mask Dance that to banish the evil, chanting, and Unfolding the Thangkar at noon time when the sun is at the stongest moment of a day; 2017 Katok Festival date will be held from July 31st to August 2nd, for attending this festival please visit this page
