Potatso National Park is also Pudacuo National Park. It is located in the southern part of the “Three Parallel Rivers” world natural heritage area, which belongs to the Heng Duan Mountain range – the one mountains that goes from North to South in China

Brief

The park is about 20 kilometers east from Shangri-La City, with a total of 300 Square kilometers. The highest point of this national park is about 4160 meters above sea level . The lowest point is about 3280 meters above sea level. This is the 1st National Park of China that to meet International Union for Conservation of Nature standards.

What to see

The park contains more than 20 percent of the country’s plant species, about one-third of its mammal and bird species and almost 100 endangered species, though it comprises only 0.7 percent of China’s land area. It is home to Black-necked cranes, and many other rare and beautiful orchids, and Himalayan Yew, a coniferous tree whose extracts are a source of the anticancer drug.

Drive and visit

It usually takes less than one hour drive from Shangri La city to the entrance of Potatso National Park, which has two lakes actually, i.e, pu da cuo lake and Shu Du lake, there is also one a tourist center, Tibetan villages, lush forests and pasture views. After entering the ational pack area, visitors will take the sightseeing bus to the 14 kilometers away stop, from which tourists can take a walk along the miles long of wooden-walkways

How to get to there


Pudacuo is located in Hongpo Village, Jiantang Town, Shangri-La City, about 20 kilometers away from Shangri-La City.

The nearest airport to it is Shangri-La Airport. Because it is close to the downtown area of Shangri-La, the transportation here is very convenient. In addition to public transportation, you can also choose taxis and chartered cars to visit here.

By bus from Shangri La city: There are four shuttle buses to Pudacuo every day from Shangri-La Passenger Station. The departure times are 08:00, 08:30, and 09:30, and the return times are 14:00, 14:30, 15:00, and 16:30, rate: RMB 30.00 round trip

By rent vehicle: It usually costs RMB 260 round trip

By Taxi : It usually costs RMB 180 one way
