Overview

Join us on an extraordinary journey to explore Mt. Gongga (also known as Minya Konka), the highest mountain in southwestern China, rising dramatically to 7,556 meters. This immersive 7-day tour offers a combination of awe-inspiring natural scenery and rich Tibetan cultural encounters, taking you through iconic highland passes, remote villages, and the famous Hailuogou Glacier—Asia’s lowest and most accessible glacier.

Highlights include panoramic views of Mt. Gongga from the Zimei Pass, a cultural stop at traditional Tibetan villages, and a scenic journey through the unique Red Stone Valley. Weather permitting, you’ll witness the majestic peak from both its south and east faces, including a cable car ride up the glacier for breathtaking views.

Day 1 – Arrival in Chengdu

Welcome to Chengdu! Upon arrival, your guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Enjoy a relaxing visit to a traditional teahouse in People’s Park.

Day 2 – Chengdu to Xinduqiao (3,300 m)

Depart Chengdu early and travel via Kangding and Zheduo Pass to Xinduqiao. Enjoy stunning plateau scenery and Tibetan village charm.

Day 3 – Xinduqiao to Zimei Pass (4,500 m) via Shang Muju

Travel through alpine valleys to Shang Muju Village. Visit Zimei Pass for breathtaking views of Mt. Gongga’s southern face. Overnight in a Tibetan homestay.

Day 4 – Shang Muju to Hailuogou Glacier (2,850 m)

Drive back through Kangding and Red Stone Valley to Hailuogou Glacier Park. Enjoy scenic contrasts of iron-rich formations and high mountains.

Day 5 – Explore Hailuogou Glacier

Ride the cable car up to view the glacier and eastern face of Mt. Gongga. Optional hot spring bath for relaxation.

Day 6 – Hailuogou to Chengdu via Luding

Visit Luding’s Iron Chain Bridge before returning to Chengdu. Enjoy your final cultural walk through Jinli Ancient Street.

What is the best time to join this tour?

The best travel season is from May to October when the weather is most stable and mountain views are clearest.

Do I need to be physically fit for this trip?
