Tibet Altitude is the altitude information about Tibetan plateau. Nowadays, when speaking about “Tibet” , it mainly refer to this area that is named the “Tibetan Autonomous Region” , with Lhasa as the capital of this region. In short, TAR.

Here, the “Tibet” means the enormous region including TAR and the areas of Kham and Amdo in the east of Tibet

This vast land almost the same size as Western Europe, and has various complex land-forms such as high and steep mountains, deep valleys, glaciers, and bare rocks. All the places in this region lie at an average altitude of more than 4,000 meters. This area is home to the indigenous Tibetan people, and also to other Tibetan ethnic groups such as the Monpas, Lhobas and Khampas.

In general, the terrain shape of the whole region is that the elevation gradually decreases from west to east. The average altitude of west Tibet of Guge kingdom as well as the north Tibet Changtang plateau is over 5000 meters; the middle region as the areas including Lhasa, Gyantse, Shigartse…etc has the altitude in between 3500 meters to 4000 meters; in the east end of Tibetan plateau, including the area of Kham, Amdo, the altitude is lower to 2000 meters even, however, the average altitude of this east region of Tibet is still over 3000 meters.
