Lhasa Shigatse Train

According to Lhasa Railway Station that the booking on the Lhasa & Shigatse Train are now bookable 30 days priror to departure. For the moment, there are 3 scheduled trains on this route, of which are: Z8801/2, Z8803/4, and Z9802

Following the national train department regulation of “Real-Name System” that the orignal copy of your ID or passprot is reuqired when purchasing the tickets;
The tickets can now be booked 30 days days priror to departure; and can be booked over phone;

The booking portal is open from 07:00am to 11:00pm every day Online OR by phone withg Number: 95105105

2017 Tibet Airlines

2017 Tibet Airlines has a big change, new jet being purchased and used on the current flights, and there are 7 new airlines are about to be open, among of which 2 flights are from Lhasa, i.e: Lhasa–Xining-Qingdao & Lhasa-Lanzhou-Qingdao; One flight is from Nyingchi to Shenzhen with stop over Chongqing;

the other 4 new flights are Chengdu-Jinan, Kunming-Tianjin, Chongqing-Changsha, Guiyang-Lanzhou;

In addition to this 7 new flights, Tibet Airlines also addes up more flight on Chengdu / Sanya; or changing its aircraft from smaller one to larger one, i.e: The plane flying from Chengdu to Shanghai will be upgraded to a A330, which is much more comfortable than currently using jet;

The direct 3 hours flight from Lhasa to Shengzhen will be open soon,

The flight Nyingchi-Chengdu-Shengzhen will be amended to be Nyingchi-Chongqing-Shengzhen

Now passengers will have more choices on the traffic for entering Tibet

Rinbung Tibetan Opera Mask

Rinbung Tibetan Opera Mask is one special type of Tibetan Monk Dance Mask and being made in Rinbung county, of which is administrated by Shigartse and situated in between Lhasa and Shigartse City. Rinbung in Tibetan means “Treasure”.

Tibetan opera is the traditional opera of Tibet, and it means Fairy in Tibetan. In Rinbung County, Tibetan opera is also called “Gyangkar Opera”, it is one of the three major Tibetan Opera School. According to Tibetan religious history that Tibetan Opera was created by a high-rank lama, whom is also Bridge Builder, called “Drupthok Thangthong Gyalpo” in 14th century. The Tibetan religion is the main inspiration of Tibetan Opera. As of a result, the mask Dance is also the major performance at one event or holy ceremony.

One Tibetan Opera performance usually includes dancing, chanting, singing, and masks, which is quite similar as a religious performance with just little difference. On those masks, a pattern of Sun and Moon is on the top middle of the forehead. And the roles of Tibetan Opera can be Distinguished by the color of the mask, In general it is regarded that A red mask refers to the King, a green refers the queen; and a yellow one refers lama and deity, etc.

Sershul Luo Xu White Lips Deer Nature Reserve Approved

Sershul Luo Xu White Lips Deer Nature reserve has been approved recently. Sershul County is located in the area which is the souce of Yalung River, Jinsha River, and Maqu River. The vast grassland has formed a “ecological barrier”, which even forms up the extensive development foundation of natural wetland environment. This has made this region a paradise for a nature creatures. Sershul Luo Xu White Lips Deer Nature reserve was eastablished in 1995, 20th century, and upgrading to a provincial-level nature reserve in 1997.

On March 2nd 2017, Sichuan Provincial Government website announced that the Sichuan provincial government officially approved Sichuan Kanze (Garze) Tibetan Prefecture Sershul Luo Xu White Lips Deer Nature Reserve Functional Division. According to the confirmation that the size of Luo Xu White Lips Deer protection zone is 155,350 hectares, of which is combined with three areas. The core area is of 71,671 hectares, the buffer area is of 14,533 hectares, and the experimental area is of 69,146 hectares.

Chengdu Kangding highway

Chengdu Kangding highway is planned to be completed one year earlier than its original plan in 2018.

This highway begins from Chengdu and ends at Kangding , Yaan is the vital city that is seated in the almost middle of this highway; The first part of this highway from Chengdu to Yaan is about 148km, which has been in using for years. The second part of this highway is from Yaan to Kangding, which is about 135 kilometers and being under built. It is now planned to be completed in 2018.

As it is done, the travel time from Kangding to Chengdu will be only within 4 hours, which tremendous improve the connection between Kanze (Garze) Tibetan Prefecture (Traditionally the eastern Tibet of Kham) and Chengdu, a city that is connected with Europe North America and Southeast Asia by direct flight.

Tibetan food Kasai is one special made food for Tibetan festivals. Especially for Tibetan New Year Festival.

Kasai is made of Wheat flour, butter, salt in assorted shapes and sizes. It is actually a traditional fried Tibetan pastry and indispensable for Tibetan festivals. Kasai is usually to be coated with a thin layer of sugar before being fried in order to make it tasting much more better

Drigung monastery

Drigung Monastery is also called “Drigung til Monastery”, it is located in Maizhokunggar County about 130km northeast of Lhasa. It seats on the south slope of the mountain ridge approxiamtely 200 meter above the bottom of the valley with altitude of 4465 meters.

Brief

Its dominate position provides a wide and wonderful view of the whole valley. There are another three monasteries of the Drigung Kagyu sect located in the same region, of which are Yangrigar, Drigung Dzong, and Drigung Tse.

Founded and development

Drigung Monastery was founded in 1179, it’s the main seat of the Drigung Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. In its early years the monastery played an important role in both religion and politics.

Historically, this monastery was detroied twice, one was in 1290 AD by Mongol troops under the direction of a rival sect. Then, after it was rebuilt and regained some of its former strength, and also maintain its position as of being a primarily center of Tibetan meditative studies. The other one was after 1959, but has since been partly rebuilt. As of 2015 there were about 250 monks are housed in this monastery

How to get to there


It is about 130 kilometer northeast from Lhasa city in Maizhokunggar County, the road to this site has been rebuilt, it is now all paved, every morning, there is one bus departure at 07:00 am from the “Yu Tuo Road Intersection” near Jokhang Temple.

The one way bus-ride takes about 3 hours long, with rate: RMB 40 per person, the same bus will return to Lhasa in the afternoon. Be sure to check with driver about the time for return journey

Alternatively, you can hire local vehicle from Lhasa to here, it usually costs RMB 500.00 – 600.00 pne way per trip with one 7 seats minivan

Samye monastery conservation

Samye monastery conservation starts from 2010. after 7 years hard work, it is almost completed. It was built in the late 770s in Tsetang and featuring a blend of traditional Tibetan, Chinese and Indian architecture. The Samye monastery conservation inlcudes maintain the and rebuild its 12 buildings, adding its new and mordern Fireproof system, and rebuild its sewage treatment facilities.
