Yala Mountain is located at the southeastern border of Dawu County and Kangding City, with an altitude of 5820 meters. The mountain top is covered with snow all year round, shrouded in clouds and mist. Being able to see the snow peaks of Yala Snow Mountain is considered very auspicious.
Yala Snow Mountain is one of the famous snow mountains in the Kham region and is also one of the four sacred mountains recorded in the famous Tibetan epic “King Gesar“.
According to the ancient Tibetan text “The Path to Liberation through Understanding the Sacred Mountains”, Yala Snow Mountain is considered the “Second Shambhala”. Shambhala is a place where immortals reside, representing the ideal realm in the hearts of Tibetans.
When viewed from the town of Bamei, Yala Snow Mountain appears in the shape of a crown; on the Tagong town, it resembles a lotus throne surrounded by petals; when seen from the “Nongge Mountain” to the west, Yala Snow Mountain appears as the seated Maitreya Buddha, with a very lifelike image.
