Overview
Celebrate the Tibetan New Year, Losar, with a profound cultural journey in the spiritual heart of Tibet. From February 17–24, 2026, witness traditional rituals, vibrant prayer ceremonies, and the joyful spirit of renewal that fills Lhasa. This immersive experience combines festival observation with visits to sacred monasteries and scenic sites.
- 🛂 A Chinese visa and a Tibet Travel Permit are required. We will assist in processing the permit, which requires at least 30 days advance notice.
- 🎉 Losar is a public holiday in Tibet. Monastery visits during festival days may be subject to limited access or large local crowds.
- 🏔️ Lhasa is at high altitude (3,650m). It’s normal to experience mild altitude symptoms the first couple of days. Hydration and rest are key.

Day 1 – February 15: Arrival in Lhasa
Arrive in Lhasa and meet your local Tibetan guide. En route to your hotel, stop by the cliffside Nie-Tang Buddha. Later, enjoy a gentle acclimatization walk through Norbulingka, the Dalai Lama’s former summer palace.

Day 2 – February 16: Lhasa City Tour
Visit the majestic Potala Palace, then explore Jokhang Temple and the bustling Barkhor Street pilgrimage circuit.

Witness early morning prayers at Jokhang Temple during Losar festivities. In the afternoon, visit the grand Drepung Monastery.

Excursion to the sacred meditation caves of Drak Yerpa, followed by a scenic drive to the holy turquoise waters of Yamdrok Lake.

What is Losar?
Losar is the Tibetan New Year and one of the most important festivals in Tibetan culture. It involves traditional rituals, family gatherings, and visits to monasteries to pray for prosperity and peace.
Is altitude sickness a concern?
Some guests may feel light-headed or fatigued upon arrival in Lhasa. Our itinerary includes rest time and gradual acclimatization. Please consult your physician if you have concerns.
Do I need to bring traditional gifts or dress?
No. However, being respectful and modest in dress, especially when visiting religious sites, is appreciated. Your guide will offer tips during the tour.
What weather should I expect in February?
Days are sunny and crisp (-5 – 2°C), while nights are cold (often below freezing). Warm layers, gloves, and a good down jacket are essential.
