“Tulou Guan” was the initial name of Bei Shan temple in ancient time, and was called “Yongxing Temple” in Ming Dynasty. “Guan” is Chinese Pinyin, it means Temple, but in using of Taoism only; Then after it was renamed in modern time.
Brief
Bei Shan Temple is the earliest religious buildings in Qinghai Province, which was built in the Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 106), approximately with history of over 1,800 years.
In the very beginning, it was built as “Huangzhong Temple first which was a Buddhism monastery, then converted to be one Taoism temple.
The construction of the temple is basically a natural fault of the red sandstone in the mountains, built in the order from west to east.
The most interesting building
The most interesting site of this Temple is the “Nine cave & 18 Holes”. These ancient caves are vary with its structures, and there are statues of Buddhism deity, or Taoist statues, with different formation. There is trail to connect the caves. Some of the caves are still retain parts of the mural which was painted in Sui Dynasty and Tang Dynasty. The Ningshou Tower at the summit is the highest ancient architecture of Xining, from which you are able to overlook Xining city for a panoramic view

It usually cost RMB 8.00 – 15.00 per trip (one way) to get to this site from downtown area of Xining
