Pelyul county

“Pelyul county” also “Palyul county”, in Chinese it is called “Bai Yu Xian”. Approximately more than 45,000 people live in this county, it administrates 17 villages and townships. The capital town of this county is called Jian She Town, which is about 2900 meters above sea level, considerably comfort with its mild climate, and low altitude in the east Himalayan East Plateau. The whole township expands rapidly along the river, of which cuts this warm town into two parts. on the northern bank, the city hospitals including one Traditional Tibetan Medicine Hospital and middles school are built right beneath Pelyul monastery; on the southern bank, a comfort hotels are built along the river which provide a open view on Pelyul monastery.

There are two ways to get into this small town. From north, the De-Bai Road starting from Derge , along the east bank of Jinsha River – the border river that separates the Central Tibet and the East Tibet, for about 105 kilometer or 2-3 hours drive. From east, The Gan-Baqi road strating from Kanze (or Garze), runs 228km to reach Pelyul county. It takes about 4-5 hours car ride to cover this distance.

How to get to Pelyul County

Just as Derge county that Pelyul is also located in the hinterland of Kham that there is no any airport is closer unless the open of Kanze Gesar Airport, which may be in use in the middle or end of 2018;

For the moment, the land transportation is only way to get in and get out Pelyul county; due its isolated location, there are generally three routes in and out

  • To Dzongsar monastery : 90 kilometers, about 3.5 hours’ drive
  • To Palpung monastery : 100 kilometers, about 4 hours’ drive
  • To Batang : 200 kilometers, about 6.5 hours’ drive
