Manigango

Manigango (3890 m) is an important transportation hub. Yushu (also Jeykundo ) lies 470 km to its north; Kanze (Garze) is 100 km to its east; and 115 km Northwest to Derge county. Dzogchen monastery, one of the great Nyingmapa sect monastery in the east Tibet, located some 50 km west over the Haizi pass (4800 meter); About 23km east of this wild-west like township, a jeep-able road leads to the Yi-chu valley, via a side bridge northward to Yilhun township, where one small but very authentic Horse-racing festival is held almost annually on a wide open grassland below the local monastery and village in August

There are two large hostels, few other small guesthouses, one gas-station and one small clinic in this wild small township. Approximately 13km west from this town is the beautiful highland lake of Xinlu lake which is called Yulhun Lhatso lake in Tibetan. “Yulhun ” is the compliment of the beautiful wife of King Gesar; “Lhatso ” means the holy lake.

Manigango is indeed in the bottom of a very large valley juntion, which several valleys joint each other at here that naturally forming up this traffic hub,
