Larung Gar Pilgrim is to visit the Larung Gar Monastery, which is also called as “Larung Gar Five Sciences Buddhist Academy”. This name was given by the 10th Panchen Lama in May of 1987. In the meantime, Mr. Puchu Zhao, the Chairman of the Buddhist Association of China, wrote the name of the institute in Chinese.

Despite its remote location, it grew quickly to be the largest and most influential centers for the study of Tibetan Buddhism in the east Tibet of Kham and Amdo. Itinerary

D1 Arrive in Chengdu

By flight to Chengdu, after arrive in Chengdu, visit to the traditional Chinese tea-house at People’s park, which is regarded as a Window for people understanding the way of local people’s life.

D2 Chengdu to Xinduqiao

Today, we begin our journey, we’ll depart early, the drive may take 8-9 hours. The first stop we will make is in Kangding, which is the first Tibetan town of this trip with altitude of 2650 meters, we will walk around in this small town that situated in the bottom of valley, enjoy the view, if you want that you can try to communicate with lcoal people with assistance of our gudie; then after we will be on our way again, heading west onto Mt Dzeto Pass (4323 meters). Here on the top of the pass officially means you are on the tibetan plateau. Then we will descend to Xinduqiao (3300 meters), a small tibetan town becomes popular for its picturesque view in the recent years

D3 Xinduqiao to Sertar County

After having breakfast, we will depart to Tagong, where we are going to visit the Lhagang monastery. According to a legend, when Princess Wengcheng (Tang dynasty) traveled to Tibet, she stayed overnight there, and the Jowo Shakyamuni image which she brought as her dowry to Lhasa requesting to be left in that idyllic setting. Subsequently, King Songtsen Gampo constructed 108 temples in the direction of China mainland, after visiting to Lhagang monastery heading to the holy mountain of Yarla Jartso and, visit the great Mani pile. After the visit of this monastery, we will be back on the main road, head north to Luhuo, which is a small Tibetan town that connects Larung Gar Monastery in its up-north. We possibly will arrive in Sertar County around 18:00 pm. Check in, and rest.

D4 Larung Gar Visit

Today we will have a full day to explore the site of Larung Gar, which is called “Larung Gar Five Sciences Buddhist Academy”. It is a Buddhist academy located in the Larung Gar valley, about 20 km east from Serta County. It was founded in 1980 in the uninhabited valley by Jigme Phuntsok, a lama of the Nyingma tradition. The academy has grown substantially ever since. The enormous areas are covered by the houses for monks and nuns, of which are divided by a winding road and cutting the mountains into two half and even makes it like a “city”. Alcohol are strictly prohibited in this valley.

D5 Sertar to Barkham

Today, We will get to visit Larung Gar again. Then we will begin our journey return; We will be back on the main road, and driving to Barkham; after arrive in Barkham, check in hotel, you will have your time free

D6 Barkham to Chengdu

In the morning we will depart from Barkham city, the first site we will visit is Choktse village, which is composed by field-stone Tibetan house, a stone fortification and being built almost one hundred years ago. It’s thought to be one of he oriental architecture wonders, a witness of the traditional Tibetan Official System. Then after, we’ll be back on the main road drive all the way to Chengdu;

D7 Chengdu departure

Your trip ends today, you will be transported to the airport or train station for your departure
