Yarchen Gar pilgrimage trip is to drive for about 850 km west from Chengdu to visit this Nyingma Pa sect monastery. Even if this is a newly found monastery, however, it has rapidly grown to be the largest Buddhist study, and meditation compound across Tibetan plateau. Due to its remote location and the harsh traffic condition, this place is kind of self-isolated, and being very seldom visited by tourists. Chengdu to Xinduqiao

Today, we begin our journey of exploring the mysterious Yarchen Gar. We’ll drive 360 kilometers on a paved road, into hill country and cross through Mt. Erlang tunnel, where we will stop by to visit Luding Iron Bridge. Then, we’ll arrive at the gateway town of the Eastern Tibet of Kham – Kangding, which is cradled along the raging Dzetuo River. The river’s continual rumble can be heard in its alleyways where nomads from the West to sell Tibetan herbal medicine, Khampa knives, traditional Tibetan garments, and yak butter tea. For centuries the town has held the status of “Gateway to Tibet,” We will continue drive to Xinduqiao, a quiet small Tibetan town, it is getting well-know for its picturesque view

Xinduqiao to Kanze

After having breakfast, we will depart to Tagong, where we are going to visit the Lhagang monastery. According to a legend, when Princess Wengcheng (Tang dynasty) traveled to Tibet, she stayed overnight there, and the Jowo Shakyamuni image which she brought as her dowry to Lhasa requesting to be left in that idyllic setting. Subsequently, King Songtsen Gampo constructed 108 temples in the direction of China mainland, after visiting to Lhagang monastery heading to the holy mountain of Yarla Jartso and, visit the great Mani pile. Then after, we will drive to Luhuo, a small Tibetan town that connects Larung Gar in its up-north.

The visit to Lhagang monastery may have to to be canceled due to traffic control on the road between Tagong and Bamei

Kanze to Yarchen Gar and return to Kanze

The drive from Kanze to Yarchen Gar is about 95 km (one way), The road is well paved except the part near the Mt Dzoda pass (4850 m), it takes approximately 3 hours drive to get to this site. Once you get there you will spend more than 4 hours to explore this Buddhism site, overnight in the local guesthouse, please be prepare for this night, the condition of local guesthouse is quite basic

Kanze to Kangding

Today, we will be on our journey back, we will drive back to Kangding , where we will spend one night in one nice 4 star hotel located in the new district of Kangding

Kangding to Chengdu

In the morning we’ll be on our way to Chengdu, the drive takes about 6-7 hours, when we arrive in Chengdu, we will transport you to your hotel
