Kham & Amdo connection route (SK04)
This tour combines the northern Kham and the central Amdo. On this tour, you will be driving “off the beaten track” to appreciate the outstanding nature view, and the hidden monastery of Langmu Si. This trip brings a combination of rich culture, as well as the nature wonders
Itinerary
Day 2 Chengdu to Kangding: Drive 360km on paved road, into hill country and crossing through the Mt. Erlang tunnel, En-route you will stop by to visit Luding Iron Bridge. After arriving in Kangding, visit to Anjue monastery.
Day 3 Kangding to Bamei: Drive through Mt. Dzetuo, up to the pass of 4323m, and then westward for Tagong, where you will to visit the Lhagang monastery, the holy mountain of Yarla Jartso, and the great Mani pile.
Day 4 Bamei to Barkham via Danba: The road is curve along the Ming River, slowly going up to reach Barkham, which is an area rich in pasture land, forest and valleys, it is situated at an elevation of 2,670 meters. Before we arrive at Barkham, we will visit to Choktse village, which is composed by a fieldstone 5F Tibetan house and a stone fortification built almost one hundred years ago. It’s thought to be one of he oriental architecture wonders, a witness of the traditional Tibetan Official System.
Day 5 Barkham to Aba: Departure from Barkham, fthe curved road leads northward onto Tibetan plateau, the view is getting wide, the paved road crossing through the grassland, which dotted by hundreds of thousands of yaks, sheep. Aba is an area where nomadic groups and long established sedentary communities intermingle. Once arriving at this town, you are going to visit Kirti monastery.
Day 6 & 7 Aba to Langmu Si: Continuing northward into Amdo, through the northern edge of Kham, crossing through the Yellow river, which divides Gansu and Qinghai provinces to reach Lanmu Si that is located in the bottom of valley junction, we will spend one day here to explore the exotic Tibetan valley.
Day 8 & 9 Langmu Si to Lanzhou via Labrang monastery: After having the visit to Langmu Si, we will drive to Xiahe, where one of the 6 great Gelukpa monasteries – Labrang monastery located. Then continuing heading north to Lanzhou, en-route stop by to visit to Binling cave.
Day 10 Lanzhou to Chengdu: By noon flight return to Chengdu, in the afternoon visit to the temple of Marques Wu and Jinli Street.
Day 11 Chengdu: Today, your journey is to visit to San-xing-dui. Literally “three stars mound”, is the name of an archaeological site in China, now believed to be the site of an ancient Chinese city. The previously unknown Bronze Age culture was re-discovered in 1987 when archaeologists excavated remarkable artifacts, that radiocarbon dating dated as being from the 12th-11th centuries BCE. Leaving behind nothing in the historical record, not even in myth, the unknown culture that produced these artifacts is now known as the Sanxingdui Culture. En route we will stop by to visit Chengdu Panda Breeding base, to witness feeding the Giant Panda;
Day 12 Chengdu to the airport for departure.
